IUS student concert marks Ataturk Remembrance Day and Youth and Sports Festival in Turkey

On the occasion of May 19, the Day of Remembrance of Ataturk and the Day of Youth and Sports in Turkey, a concert of students of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) was held in the House of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The concert was organized in cooperation between the Yunus Emre Institute, the Office of Education at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Sarajevo and the International University in Sarajevo.

The songs in Turkish and Bosnian were performed by students of the Department of Turkology of IUS, and among the numerous guests in the audience was the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to BiH Mr. Sadik Babur Girgin.

The director of the Yunus Emre Institute in Sarajevo, Mr. Mehmet Akif Yaman, pointed out that the student choir concert was organized on the occasion of an important Turkish holiday and that it was important that it was held in the beautiful hall of the BiH Armed Forces House.

Mr. Faruk Berat Akcesme, Education Adviser at the Turkish Embassy in Sarajevo, said that special programs were organized in Zenica and Mostar on the same occasion. 

In Turkey, May 19 is celebrated as the Holiday of Youth and Sports, and also the Day of Remembrance of the first President of the modern Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

On this day in 1919, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk began the struggle for the independence of his people and laid the foundations of today's Turkey. That is why May 19 is an extremely important date in the history of the country.

The Day of Youth and Sports is marked by numerous special events in the Republic of Turkey, as well as in other countries of the world where the Turkish diaspora lives.
